Equipment Hire

Boats

The club owns over 30 boats, each with a full set of equipment, all of which are available for hire to members. The river/general purpose kayaks, sea kayaks, and open boat/Canadian canoes are currently kept at the Muirtown Basin in Inverness, while a number of boats are stored at the Inverness Aquadome for use during winter pool sessions. Boats available for hire are listed here.

Cost of hire to members:

• For boats used on club trips/courses: £5.00 per person, per day.
• For boats used on non-club activities: £10.00 per person, per day.

This includes buoyancy aids, spraydecks, cags, helmets and paddles, if required.

Who can hire equipment?

Club boats are available for hire by club members and for club events/courses; they are not to be hired out commercially.

At the committee’s discretion, boats may occasionally be made available for non-club use, but only by prior agreement of the committee. Enquiries should be made to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.; a deposit of £100.00 will be required from any non-member hiring a boat.

Hire for Coached Courses and Club Trips run by ICC or advertised to ICC Members

Coaches and trip leaders will coordinate the hire of boats for their own trips (unless otherwise stated).

For all other bookings

Please contact one of the volunteer hirers whose details can be found in the Members Area. However, in order to spread the load: 1) please don't contact the same person every time you want to place a booking, and 2) if it is a club event, please check to see if there is a nominated hirer first.

Please remember that these people hire-out equipment on an entirely voluntary basis, so bear in mind the following guidelines:

Have all trip and group details ready to pass on to the hire volunteer;

If you are interested in a particular kayak or canoe, please consult the list of boats and make a note of its details, especially its number. Please bear in mind that it may not always be possible to accommodate a specific request;

When phoning, please try to keep calls to no earlier than 9am and no later than 9pm;

Give plenty of notice for a hire request; bookings will not be accepted with less than two days notice. If you want to make a booking well in advance (ie. a number of weeks/months), then we ask that you reconfirm the booking with the volunteer hirer closer to the hire date;

Once you have arranged a mutually convenient time for collection and return, make sure you contact your volunteer hirer if you are going to be late or your plans change;

Ensure you have a suitable means of transporting equipment i.e. a roof rack and tie-down straps or inside a van; sea kayaks and open boats are to be secured front and rear to vehicle tie down points.

Please return equipment in a clean state and rinsed with fresh water to remove salt/water-borne infections. Return all soft kit in sets and hang it up in its correct place in the equipment hut.

Members are responsible for any damage to boats or kit. However, things do break and the club will be understanding of minor damage from normal wear and tear. Please report any damage you find to the hirer and the Club's Equipment Officer so we can fix it.

Please note that all bookings are subject to our Equipment Hire Policy, which can be downloaded below.
