ICC in the news!

E-mail Print

The club's slalom course project was featured in the Press & Journal last week.

Not as much information in the article as we'd have liked, but it was a fair overview of what's proposed and hopefully will help to raise the club's profile and aid us in reaching out to others in the local community.

For those of you who didn't catch the article, you can view it by clicking here.

Gyrodactylus Salaris Parasite

E-mail Print

Gyrodactylus Salaris - a water borne parasite - is of increasing concern in Europe and, if it made its way into Scottish waters, would have the potential to devastate salmon fisheries in the country.

Please take a few minutes to read our interim guidance note to ensure that, as a club, we help to keep this parasite out of our rivers.

ICC would like to invite you to our open day at Loch Achilty, by Contin. The open day is a great opportunity for one and all to come and find out about the club, what we're about and to try out different kinds of kayaks and canoes.

There will be demos, come-and-try sessions and talks on a variety of types of craft...there will also be a BBQ on the go; so bring along some food!

For those who want to go out on the water, remember to take the appropriate clothing and a warm set of clothes to change into after.

River Ness Marathon :: Marathon Abhainn Nis

E-mail Print

Sunday 25 July saw the annual Ness Marathon take place. The event is one of four in the Highland Marathon Series as is organised by Inverness Canoe Club's Steve Mackinnon in association with the SCA.

After a week of heavy rain, the sun came out and made it a fantastic day for all involved. Club members, as well as folk from further afield (incl. Kirkcady, Linlithgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen), swarmed to Inverness to take part.

Such was the enthusiasm, that new records were set in a number of catogories:

Long Course K1 Male (and overall course record) - Colin McMorrin (Kirckcady CC)
Long Course K1 Junior Male - Jack Brickell (Forth CC)
Long Course Tandem Open Canoe - Lucas Chapman\Neil Fraser (Inverness CC)
Short Course K1 Female - Mags Duncan (Inverness CC)
Short Course K1 Junior Male - Ruaraidh Stirling (Inverness CC)
Short Course K1 Junior female - Talitha Jane White (Whitewave Activities)
Short Course K2 - John Ross\Campbell Ross (East Sutherland CC)
Short Course Solo Open Canoe - Jonathan Skinner (Inverness CC)

Many thanks, as ever, go to Steve Mackinnon for organising the event and making it such a success.

Club Open Canoe Trips

E-mail Print

Malcolm Wield will be running two canoe trips for less experienced club canoe paddlers on consecutive Sunday's in August.

The trips will each be Grade 2 and be dependant on enough water in the rivers. They are full day trips, but should be all done by 4pm ish. Meeting 0930 at the Scout Hut both days.

The trip on the 15th will be on the River Conon from Achilty Dam to Conon Bridge. The trip on the 22nd will be on the bottom section of the River Findhorn from Mains of Sluie to near the A96. Preference on this trip will be given to those on the first trip or slightly more experienced paddlers as it is a little bit more technical and certainly more strenuous.

Both trips are stunning, canoe river touring in the Highlands at it's best!

The trips are limited to a max of 4 boats running as tandems. That is 8 places available. If you need club boats/kit you will need to arrange to book them out via the on-line booking system yourself.

Please let Malc know if you would like to go and if you can transport a boat on your car: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or 07833 681730.

Newsflash

Inverness Canoe Club is currently progressing an exciting project to bring a mini slalom course to Bught Park, Inverness.

The project was initially set in motion by former ICC President and SCA Regional Coaching Organiser, Steve MacKinnon, however the club has now added its weight to proceedings in order to maximise funding streams and support.

We are still at an early stage and funding applications still in the pipeline, however we are happy to announce that we have already secured funding from greeninverness and sponsorship from Brandon Landscpaing Ltd. Both of these organisations' input and support, especially at such an early stage, is extremely welcome and appreciated.

Please keep an eye on the Bught Park Slalom Course page in the About the Club section for news as things progress...
