Club Development (3)
Over the last few months we have been looking at the future of the Inverness Canoe Club. Our starting point is not a club in decline, but rather a really vigorous one, but where success has brought its own problems. Key questions around the future of the club have been the need for a secure base, the support and encouragement of coaching and coaches and the personal development of members, as well as equipment renewal. To help reach consensus on a way forward, the Club undertook a survey of members in November 2014 and held a members day. Subsequently, the committee has produced a development plan which will be circulated at the 2015 AGM. As part of this process, the Club has invested in a new website and membership system and has plans for much more structured coaching and trips in 2015, building on an already full programme. We are also keen to encourage family paddling and to find ways to develop river kayaking and open boating within the Club.
