Pool Sessions, Winter 2021
Pool sessions will run in the competition pool at the Aquadome in Inverness on Friday evenings 9.00pm – 10.30pm from 29th Oct 2021 to 17th Dec 2021 inclusive. It is highly likely that further sessions will be offered January – March 2022 but more on that to follow later in the year.
The cost of sessions will be £7.50 per week for adults and £5.00 per week for children and concessions. People are asked to book and pay for a block of 4 weeks 29th Oct – 19th Nov or 26th Nov – 17th Dec. Please do not book the second block if you were successful in gaining a place in the first block.
The groups on offer include:
- Uncoached adults in the deep side
- Coached adults who specifically want to roll
- General coached adults who may want to practice anything from capsize & wet exit to rolling and everything in between.
The pool is booked from 9.00pm until 10.30pm with the coached session lasting from 9.00pm until 10.00pm. At this point, we will ask the children to leave the pool and get changed. The remaining time is for free practice, both for coaches and anyone who wants to continue to practice/experiment on their own or with their peers.
ALL places must be pre-booked and paid for via WebCollect. This is a change from previous years with regard to the uncoached adults in the deep side. Bookings for the first block will open 22/10/21 and for the second block will open 12/11/21. There will be no capacity to accommodate anyone who just turns up without having pre-booked a place.
No substitutions will be permitted. No refunds will be given for any sessions that members have booked but are unable to attend for whatever reason. Refunds will be made if Inverness Canoe Club or Highlife Highland cancels any sessions.
Kayaks, paddles and spray decks will be provided. Only coaches and playboaters are allowed to bring their own kayaks into the pool. All members are welcome to bring their own paddle to the pool. Any equipment being brought into the pool should be cleaned prior to being placed in the pool.
Devices for taking photos or videos must be registered at reception of the leisure centre. Please ensure that you have the permission of the person you are filming, and do not take images of children other than your own.
The competition pool at the Aquadome is not the warmest pool. You may not be warm enough in just your swimming costume. Wear a wet suit if you have one or shorts and a (synthetic or thermal) t-shirt over your swimming costume. Some people wear neoprene boots or shoes, while others prefer bare feet. Please ensure that anything you bring into the pool is clean - clothing, spray deck, paddles etc - and remember to shower before entering the pool.
When you arrive at the Aquadome, there is no need to pay at the front desk; just come down to the main changing rooms. Inverness Canoe Club will take a register of participants in the session, but any spectators, including parents accompanying children booked in the youth group, must register with Highlife Highland. Once changed, please check in with the club’s poolside supervisor and then select a kayak and paddle for the session. If you sit in a kayak and then decide not to use it for the session, please wipe it down with the antibacterial wipes or spray and paper that will be available. Please remember that 2 people should carry a kayak. The coaching session starts at 9.00pm so please arrive in good time to get changed and select a boat by 9.00pm. Please sanitise your hands prior to handling any equipment. This is especially important if getting boats out of the store or putting them away.
